The Beatles #1 – Please Please Me
Today, as I contemplate 41 years on this earth, I decided to buy the complete set of albums from The Beatles and listen to it from beginning to end. Ok, I probably won’t get through the whole thing in one day, but I have started.
Please Please Me brought us Love Me Do, I Saw Her Standing There, Please Please Me (you’ll recognise it if you hear it) and Twist & Shout, one of 6 songs that were written by someone else on the album.
For for first few songs, I could have sworn they only knew how to play three chords, but there’s a bit of variety as you head down to track 6!! Many things come to mind as I listen to this:-
- I’m listening to a piece of history. Wow.
- This is a collection of 14 songs about love, or 4 boys from Liverpool who wanted to get laid, but that message was hidden very well under the guise of love and obedience and loyalty. What good boys!
- I can’t believe these 4 clean cut boys in suits and ties with pretty tame hair cuts by todays standards were considered to be so ‘out there’ and trouble makers.
And enjoy this amusing cartoon to “I Saw Her Standing There”, a comical interpretation of the beginning of the end for The Beatles! Quite amusing considering this was the first song on the first album……
